Dr. Monroe is a licensed veterinarian who was certified in Animal Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in 1994.

Dr. Monroe provides animal chiropractic care and related therapies such as acupressure and therapeutic massage for dogs and cats. Dr. Monroe also provides consultations in rehabilitation therapy for dog owners who prefer to rehabilitate their own dogs following injury or orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Monroe believes that the combination of chiropractic care and rehabilitation therapy provides the optimal environment for healing a musculoskeletal injury. The rehabilitation exercises address the primary problem, and chiropractic care at every appointment addresses the secondary compensatory issues that develop because the dog is not using its body symmetrically.

Dr. Monroe's patients include dogs who compete in agility, flyball, obedience, lure coursing, herding, Schutzhund, and other sports. These dogs receive regular chiropractic treatments as part of the health maintenance program for an active performance dog. Dr. Monroe also sees patients who have arthritis, hip dysplasia, degenerative disc disease of the spine, a history of surgery or injury, and other orthopedic conditions.

To help determine if chiropractic care is appropriate for your animal, see Chiropractic Care for Canines. Although the article is geared toward dogs, cats with arthritis or a history of injury or lameness also benefit from chiropractic care.

This is not a full-service practice, and Dr. Monroe does not provide emergency services. All clients who consult with Dr. Monroe need to maintain a relationship with a full-service veterinariany clinic or hospital.

Dr. Monroe sees patients by appointment only. All new patients and all rehabilitation patients are seen only on weekends. Occasional weekday evening chiropractic appointments are available for established patients who are unavailable for weekend appointments. The office is located in southeast Durham, just north of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
